Abstract:

Cancer is a disease that affects societies biologically, psychologically, socially and economically and it causes tangible and intangible loss. Cancer’s rapid spread across the world and the insufficiency of preventive policies obliged measures to be taken against cancer in the world and Turkey. For priorities to be detected in respect of controlling the cancer, incidence and mortality have to be calculated. But the cancer expenditures in Turkey fail to find a comprehensive database regarding incidence and mortality. In this work, analyses of OECD countries’ that are chosen with Turkey comparative statistics were made. In a section of this work, multiple dimension regression analysis were made in order to detect and calculate the factors that affect cancer incidence and mortalities as well as assessing the financial burden of cancer disease. In another section of this work the relation between the countries’ medical equipment, their numbers and the countries’ development level was evaluated. In a segment of this work, an introduction of proton therapy centers which is thought to be a new hope for curing cancer was made and information was given regarding the tangible, intangible gain in case of an establishment. With this work, attention was drawn to cancer which causes moral and material loss. It was concluded that when comprehensive work was done regarding cancer and a reliable database was made, the burden of the disease can be anticipated and the factors that reduce this burden can be determined.
