Examination of Coliforms, E. coli and E. coli O157 in Raw Milk and Ripened White Cheese Samples Sold in Kars-Turkey

Project Abstract

In this study, a total of 200 samples (100 raw milk and 100 non-ripened Turkish white cheese) bought under routine sales procedure from markets in Kars city-Turkey were examined. Coliforms were isolated from all and E. coli was isolated from 96 raw milk samples. Both coliforms and E. coli were isolated from all the cheese samples. E. coli 0157 was isolated none of the samples. It is determined that, due to the high contamination rate of coliforms and E. coli in the raw milk and cheese samples, these samples could have public health risk.
