Events that are thought to exist even though they do not exist are called fictional. Therefore fiction is the expression of an imaginary act. Metafiction, which is produced based on fiction, is the conscious involvement of the writer or screenwriter in the text, and it is a reminder that what is being told is just fiction. In this respect, metafiction is a fiction within a fiction. Metafiction systematically and consciously questioning the relationship between reality and fiction draws attention that what is told consists of fiction. The most important feature of such narratives is that the author or screenwriter intervenes in the fiction and includes a fiction in the fiction. With this aspect, metafiction reveals the details hidden in a fictional text and takes the reader/audience on a journey within these details. Thus, the audience is always reminded of the fact that what is being told is fiction.

The purpose of this study is to examine The Truman Show film as an example of a metafiction and to show how fiction is handled in fiction. In The Truman Show, the main narrative that makes up the film is the subject of the film, while the subject of the film itself turns into another subject of the film. Therefore, the technical elements that make up the art of cinema in The Truman Show film were also used in the Truman Show, which is the subject of the film. Thus, through this second fiction, which is included in the original fiction, The Truman Show film was transformed into a metafiction form.
