Financial literacy can be defined as the ability to comprehend financial concepts and issues in order to
take the right decisions in the face of changing financial conditions and to manage one’s own financial status
through financial planning. The present study was conducted to determine the financial literacy levels of
individuals living in the Kayseri province and to investigate the potential relationships between financial literacy
levels and the demographic characteristics of individuals. Questionnaires were applied through face-to-face
meetings to 400 individuals living in Kayseri province. Despite their having knowledge of some basic financial
concepts like paid interest and time value of money, participants were found to have insufficient financial
literacy levels. There were significant relationships between financial literacy and the demographic
characteristics of the participants. Considering all the results, it was concluded that financial education should
be provided to improve the financial literacy levels of individuals living in Kayseri province.
