Abstract

The hypoeutectic Al-3Ni-3Si alloy was produced within the conventional solidification method and melt-spinning method at wheel speeds of 10, 20, and 30 m/s. We observed that as-cast and wheel speeds of 10, 20 alloy contains alpha-Al, Al3Ni, and Si phases, but melt-spinning alloy produced at the speed of 30 m/s illustrates only the alpha-Al phase. Besides, the melt-spun ribbons were found a much more homogeneous structure than the as-cast counterparts. The microhardness values of the rapidly solidified samples were found to be approximately 2.4 times higher than that of the conventional solidified alloy. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
