Optical cameras are affected from the issue of
limited depth of field. Image fusion is a popular
way to get an everywhere-in-focus image by
combining the defocused sequential images of a
particular scene. In this paper, a multi-focus
image fusion method using Artificial Bee Colony
optimization algorithm (ABC) is presented. The
multi-focus source images are divided into block
type regions in spatial domain. The sharper
blocks, selected by a criterion function, are
merged to obtain a well-focused image. The block
size is optimized to achieve a better image fusion
performance. Experiments conducted on different
image sets show that the proposed method is
better than traditional methods such as Laplacian
pyramid and discrete wavelet transform (DWT).
