Kimlik, kendisini taşıyan bireyin varlığı yorumlama ve varlık karşısında kendisini
konumlandırma biçimi olarak ifade edilebileceğimiz; çok yönlü, yoruma açık tanımlanması güç
bir kavram olup, geçmişten günümüze antropoloji, psikoloji ve sosyoloji disiplinlerince
inceleme konusu yapılmıştır. Bireysel, kolektif, milli, etnik, dini kimlik kategorilerinden söz
etmek mümkündür. Kimlik birey ve toplum arasındaki çok yönlü etkileşime bağlı olarak
şekillenmekte olup kimliği sosyalleşme sürecinden bağımsız düşünemeyiz.
Etnisite gibi din de birey ve toplumu önemli ölçüde etkileyen ve şekillendiren kimlik

konusu kimlik ve din-kimlik ilişkisini ele almaktır. Amacı ise kimlik, kimliğin oluşum süreçleri,
kimlik teorileri, kimliğin sosyal temelleri ve dini kimliğin gelişim aşamaları orijininde dini
kimlik meselesini çok yönlü olarak açıklamaya çalışmaktır.
