Closed environment air quality is seen as one of the most important study areas in recent years. The odors developing in closed environments are eliminated mostly through using kitchen hoods. In the study, a fuzzy logic-based smart closed loop control and warning system for kitchen hoods has been developed. The system basically consists of a micro- controller, control card, air quality sensor, LPG-Propane gas sensor, humidity temperature sensor, current sensor, and brushless DC motor components. Based on the real time data received from the sensors, a smart closed loop control and warning system algorithm has been created, and according to the data obtained, the air flow speed of kitchen hoods has been set at an optimum level with the help of a fuzzy controller. Differently from the classical control method, the system has been transformed into a structure that has a decision support feature which works depending on environmental conditions by deactivating air flow speed stages. In addition, it has been checked whether there is air flow in the chimney, and accordingly, a warning system has also been developed. Experimental studies for different odors have been conducted in order to test the performance of the system developed, and the results obtained have been evaluated in terms of energy efficiency. As a result of this evaluation, energy savings of 8.5% were achieved in the soup- frying menu, 10.8% in the soup-vegetable menu, 7.1% in the soup-pasta menu, and 7.8% in the soup-casserole menu. The results obtained have demonstrated that the system is a smart prototype which has a high decision support system that provides energy efficiency for kitchen hoods.
