Abstract

In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), which is described as a pandemic by the World Health Organization, it was decided to continue education remotely in all schools. In order to ensure the continuity of education in universities and to diversify possible alternatives, the Council of Higher Education decided to switch from face-to-face education to distance education by allowing lecturers to communicate directly with their students and organize distance education courses (Platforms, Video clips, Live, Classroom, etc.) as of March 23, 2020. In addition, due to the magnitude of the earthquake on February 6, 2023 and the effects of this disaster throughout the country, it was decided by YÖK on February 11, 2023 that it was appropriate to complete the 2022-2023 spring semester in the whole country through distance education. This study describes the distance education experiences of Kayseri University students and academics as a result of the distance education decisions taken after the pandemic and earthquake disasters. This study includes the quality of distance education at Kayseri University and the opinions of students and faculty about distance education in these processes.

Tüm dünyada yaşanan ve dünya sağlık örgütü tarafından pandemi olarak nitelendirilen koronavirüsün (COVID-19) yayılmasını önlemek amacıyla, tüm okullarda eğitime uzaktan devam edilmesine karar verilmişti. Yükseköğretim Kurulu tarafından 23 Mart 2020 tarihinden itibaren üniversitelerde eğitimin sürekliliğini sağlamak ve olası alternatifleri çeşitlendirmek amacıyla, öğretim elemanlarının öğrencileriyle doğrudan iletişim kurmalarına ve uzaktan eğitim dersleri (Platformlar, Video klipler, Canlı, Sınıf vb.) düzenlemelerine olanak tanıyarak yüz yüze eğitim uzaktan eğitim geçilmesine karar verilmişti. Ayrıca 6 Şubat 2023 tarihinde yaşanan depremin büyüklüğü ve bu afetin ülke genelindeki etkileri nedeniyle YÖK tarafından 11 Şubat 2023 tarihinde alınan kararla tüm ülkede 2022-2023 bahar döneminin uzaktan eğitim yoluyla tamamlanmasının uygun olduğuna karar verilmişti. Bu çalışma yaşanan pandemi ve deprem felaketleri sonrasında alınan uzaktan eğitim kararları sonucu, Kayseri Üniversitesi öğrencileri ve akademisyenlerinin uzaktan eğitim deneyimlerini anlatmaktadır. Bu çalışma Kayseri üniversitesi bünyesindeki uzaktan eğitimin kalitesini ve bu süreçlerde öğrenci ve öğretim elemanlarının uzaktan eğitim hakkındaki görüşlerini içermektedir.
