Özet

Over tourism problems experienced in destinations where mass tourism is concentrated threaten social, cultural, and environmental sustainability. In this context, virtual reality (VR) technologies stand out as an alternative strategy in destination management and marketing. This study evaluates the potential role of VR technologies in alleviating over-tourism by examining the effects of virtual tourism experiences on user perceptions and behavioral intentions. Based on the literature review and existing empirical findings, the effects of factors such as virtual experience quality, technological acceptance level, and emotional interaction on visitor satisfaction, destination image, and physical visit intention are analyzed. The study reveals that virtual tourism can be a strategic solution for sustainable destination management beyond being a mere marketing tool. The findings provide practical recommendations for tourism professionals and policymakers on the integration of virtual tourism.
